Guest Lecture by Mr. Manoj Sharma, Taurus Mutual Fund

The 2002 series of guest lectures opened on 27th July, by a talk on 'Capital Markets' by Mr. Manoj Sharma, Taurus Mutual Fund.

The focus of his address was the evolution, working and functioning of stock markets in India.
The highlights of his speech were:

  • The reason for NSE being incorporated was to have a separate ownership and management of stock exchanges.
  • More kinds and number of instruments in the market
  • For normal functioning of the stock market it is necessary to plug the inflows of capital from the short - term sources.
  • With modernization of stock exchanges, the speed of transactions has increased and the cost has decreased.

Most important concern while investing in stock markets is the safety of capital was his advice to the student community of MFC and one should try not to get into the trap of 'Greater Fools Theory' - one can reap benefits if he is able to find a greater fool then himself. The talk was followed by an informal tete - a - tete between the guest and the students.
