The Annual Cultural meet of Department of Financial Studies “Showcasing Indian Culture”, is an attempt to have a glimpse of our vast cultural heritage. To experience the beauty and the wisdom of a 5000 year old civilization and to witness its evolution through the amalgamation of various customs, traditions and ideas. The culture of India includes various beliefs of many faiths which coexist peacefully learning from each other in the process. Performing arts like dance, music, drama etc. have always been a very strong component of our cultural heritage. The various dance and music forms practised through the ages have evolved as a means of expression and not just entertainment. Our cultural meet tries to bring to the students an understanding of this beautiful aspect of our heritage. The students are made to see the finer nuances of the various dance and music forms through the “Lecture Demonstrations” presented by the eminent personalities from the field of dance and music.

This year PadmaVibhushan Dr.Sonal Mansingh will grace the occasion as the keynote speaker .The event will have performances by Yamini Reddy in Kuchipudi, Padmashree Kiran Segal in Odissi and Pandit Biswajit Roy Chowdhury will perform on Sarod. Mr.Tantra Narayan Thakur, chairman and managing director,Power Trading Corporation Ltd. has kindly consented to be the chief guest for the occasion.

The first cultural meet organised in the year2009 saw personalities like Padmashree Shovana Narayan as the keynote speaker for the event, followed by performances by renowned Kathak Dancer Prerana Shrimali, renowned Bharatnatyam Dancer Padmashree Geeta Chandran and Sitar Maestro Pandit Prateek Chaudhuri.
